Vision Statement

To be a leading force in revitalizing the natural fiber economy while preserving the rich traditions of Appalachian craftsmanship and connecting communities through education, sustainability, and creativity.

Mission Statement

The mission of the West Virginia Fiber Festival is to promote and strengthen the economic vitality of all natural fiber industries in West Virginia and beyond. We are committed to showcasing the full value chain of natural fiber production—from fiber-producing animals and plants to finished goods, while fostering appreciation for its cultural significance and economic potential.

Through interactive hands-on learning, vendor engagement, and public education, the festival serves to support local producers, artisans, and entrepreneurs. We aim to increase public awareness of the industry’s role in agriculture, manufacturing, and sustainable commerce, and to create opportunities for economic growth, innovation, and community development within the fiber arts sector.

After a hiatus following our last gathering in 2015 at the Hazel and J.W. Ruby Community Center at Mylan Park, we are thrilled to bring this beloved event back to Morgantown for 2026.

Whether you are an established fiber producer or simply curious about the world of agriculture and natural textiles, our weekend of fleece, fun, and fellowship offers something for everyone:

  • Family-Friendly Education: The festival is an educational, family-friendly event designed for participants of all ages to experience fiber livestock production and the fiber arts.
  • Live Fiber Animals: Visitors have the opportunity for close inspection and study of fiber-producing animals, including alpacas, Angora goats, French Angora rabbits, and multiple breeds of sheep.
  • Hands-On Learning: All educational programs are designed to be hands-on participatory training. The festival acts as a learning center to introduce the public to processes like shearing, handling, spinning, weaving, and fine-fashion garment production.
  • Vibrant Marketplace: The event features numerous vendors selling natural fiber products, related services, and equipment without the burden of consignment fees.

The West Virginia Fiber Festival is organized by dedicated volunteers representing local agricultural, educational, and fiber arts organizations, with additional support from West Virginia University Extension in alignment with their Land-grant mission (text link West Virginia University Extension in alignment with their Land-grant mission through a United States Department of Agriculture grant. We are excited to continue this legacy as we celebrate the return of the festival in 2026.
